A lot of people think, "We've got 80 homes, so an 80KVA unit should do it." That math doesn't work.

The right approach: start with each household's peak demand. Summer AC running, winter heating cranked up—one home might draw 5–8 kW at its worst. Eighty homes? That's 400–640 kW on paper.

But here's the catch: you don't size a single phase transformer based on peak demand alone. The odds of every home hitting max load at the same time are almost zero. That's why we apply a "demand factor"—typically 0.4–0.5 for residential areas.

Run the transformer capacity calculation: 80 homes × 0.4 to 0.5 demand factor = 160–320 kW actual demand. A 167KVA unit fits well here, with some headroom built in.
