The right approach: start with each household's peak demand. Summer AC running, winter heating cranked up—one home might draw 5–8 kW at its worst. Eighty homes? That's 400–640 kW on paper.

But here's the catch: you don't size a single phase transformer based on peak demand alone. The odds of every home hitting max load at the same time are almost zero. That's why we apply a "demand factor"—typically 0.4–0.5 for residential areas.
